The Friends of Coldfall Wood and Muswell Hill Playing Fields

We are an informal group of volunteers who share a common interest in protecting and enhancing these two green spaces. We have developed this website to let people know what is happening in this ancient woodland and attached playing fields, and how you can get involved in maintaining it as a wonderful natural habitat on our doorstep.

Over recent years we have been involved in the massive regeneration of the wood, in trying to improve disabled access and signage, attract new flora, fauna and wildlife, and keep the wood clean. We always welcome new members.

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:30pm, in the staff room at Coldfall Primary School (at the moment we are meeting online via Zoom). Please contact us and we would be happy to welcome you.

Between meetings we discuss things on an email group. If you would like to get involved please join the group by sending an email to

Really interested in wildlife photography and want to get involved with some local volunteering. I am currently at the university of exeter but have free time over half term and summer to help volunteer.

Thank you Rhian – we always welcome new volunteers in whatever capacity!

We will post very soon about the coming year’s volunteer day schedule, and monthly weekday workdays are also organised by TCV (

Just went on excellent winter tree walk with Ian Loasby. Learned lots of interesting things and seeing the wood in the light snow fall was lovely even if it was cold. Youngest daughter lost pink wellie somewhere on the way – if you see it please let me know! Thanks for a great day out.

All my family enjoy the woods and fields and our dog Archie loves them. It’s so important to preserve these ancient woods for future generations.I would like to become a friend and help you with the excellent work you are doing.

Thank you Rosie,

You are very welcome to come along to our next meeting in September or to one of our walks (the next one is a bat walk on August 3rd).

We will also have a stall at this year’s Muswell Hill Festival in Cherry Tree Woods on September 8th – come and say hi!

I would love to get involved in some voluntary work with Friends of Coldfall Woods and organise projects with children that promote love of nature, such as nature treasure hunt, planting, building bug hotel or other natural habitats and many more. I would also like to run forest school sessions in Coldfall woods during some weekends and perhaps school holidays, promoting and sharing a love of nature and offering sustainable play and activities that helps children reconnect with nature.
It would be great if I could attend one of your meetings and share some of the ideas with you.
Kind regards,
Ivana Grant

You are welcome to come to any of our meetings. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm, in Coldfall Primary School. We would be happy to discuss your ideas.
